90 points Tasting Panel Magazine: “It hits with a big punch of fruit and then a commensurate wallop of wood . . . a fun wine to enjoy with very flavorful foods.”
This is the Matchbook "Left of Center" twist on a Bordeaux blend: 51% Petit Verdot, 24% Malbec and 25% Cabernet Sauvignon.
The 2020 Arsonist Chardonnay is rich and luscious, offers plenty of butterscotch, Crème brûlée, vanilla and tropical fuit. An underlayer of toasty oak and caramel from barrel aging adds complexity.
The Herdsman is the culmination of Matchbook’s quest to create a premium Cabernet Sauvignon from the Dunnigan Hills.
Aromas of chocolate, pipe tobacco, red licorice and toasty oak lead to plush flavors of blueberry, blackberry, mocha and barrel spice. The texture is both weighty and smooth with soft tannins that lend an elegance to this estate grown Cab. Pair this rich and velvety Cabernet with a well-marbled steak, prime rib or pasta Bolognese.
92 Points from Wine Enthusiast! Matchbook 2018 The Herdsman MAL Giguiere Estate Malbec (Dunnigan Hills). This Malbec is filled with plump black and blue fruits, with an elevated acidity that keeps this fuller red wine fairly light on its feet. Integration of oak elevates fruit components without overwhelming; tannins are a calm medium, just gently creating a backbone down the center of the tongue. Flavors of blackberry jam, boysenberry, blueberry, black plum, cacao, anise, nutmeg, fresh violets and damp forest floor. —S.B.
Everything you expect in a fine Cabernet Sauvignon at the unexpected everyday price. Saddle leather and cigar box; blackberry and mocha; toasty oak and vanilla. It's all here!
Our 2021 Matchbook Malbec aromatics are a beautiful combination of bright crushed berries, vanilla and saddle leather. Blackberry and raspberry flavors on entry expand to include smokey, earthy, chocolate notes that lead to a touch of baking spice and black pepper on the finish. Soft tannins add a bit of structure that frame the juicy texture of this smooth and elegant wine. Matchbook Malbec is delicious on its own as an aperitif and versatile enough to pair with an array of favorite dishes from combo pizza to grilled lamb chops.
